TIFF 2014: Magical Girl by Carlos Vermut [trailer]

A sick girl, a desperate father, a woman who loses herself and a man who is released from prison. The paths that bring these characters together in this film by Carlos Vermut cannot be traced at first glance. However, as the film unfolds and through the use of a skilful narrative, they come together to create a compelling parable about how people feel and how people live.

Magical Girl unravels a story which develops with a special sense of psychological and cinematic suspense; which flirts with the comic and the grotesque, but still lets you peak under its surface, through the narrow crevices of his characters, to something you can recognize.
