TIFF 2014: The Tribe by Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy (Trailer)
Much more than a film, The Tribe is a cinematic experience. Without subtitles or dialogue, the film enters the sanctuary of a school for the deaf and observes a society with its own rules. Images which are resonant, intense and naturalistic narrate a story of violence and coming of age. As silence prevails, the cry of the heroes sounds even more desperate.
The “tribe”mentioned in the title could refer to the world of gangs, as represented in the film, or to the world of the deaf. But above all it refers to the human race, which, irrespective of gender, color or voice, is capable of the most enlightened, but also the most hideous thoughts and acts.
